A dew drop

By Karani Kelvin.

A dew drop

Round like a ball of mercury
Stands atop a tomato
Like a sentry from the future
It guards its post, holding
A mini iPhone in its hands?

Aunt says it’s been a week
The ground’s wet in the morning
The sun burns with vengeance
During day, the clouds are pregnant
But it’s the pregnancy of the elephant!

O, sentry of the future
Will it fall soon? Or will we,
With the dying crop, be swept
By the dry winds?
