Tell me something else, politician
Not the usual bamboo talk
Hard outside, hollow within
Never strong enough, always
Breaking under the weight of time
Tell me something else
Not small talk, cheaper than chang’aa
But as dangerous and cancerous
I want to hear
Of hope and progress
Side by side, hand in hand
Taking turns to visit our people
I want to hear
Happy shouts of kindergartners
Reading aloud what’s on the board
Not dirges from every homestead
That leaves each to their dead
Making funerals individual affairs!
